Multi-Client work around Aservo‘s CI consultancy business
• Design / Implementation of POC setups as part of pre-engagement sales
• Huge mix of technologies and stacks (however redhat/jenkins/ansible/atlassian featured
in most)
• Capacity planning for the post-poc implementation, hiring
• Planned, wrote and held multiple multi-day workshops with Aservo staff for training (on
Ansible, security, low level(ish) linux, CI)
• Point of technical escalation across Aservo‘s various teams, often called in to help
triage complicated issues when the teams there run out of ideas
• Lead developer/architect for a planned security appliance (elixir/lua/c)
• Security assessment

Came onboard to help SF through some significant platform issues they were facing and built the capacity into the team to stabilize the high traffic (~400kr/s) platform
• Largely java/oracle (legacy) flume/hadoop (intelligence) and php|rails/mongo (clientdev) however some nodejs components and various OTS ETL platforms were kicking around.
• Redesigned and implemented the DFS using Gluster+ZFS
• Deconstructed and simplified a very large legacy deployment system (19 instances, 300+boxes / instance)
• Training / Mentoring technical staff on new tooling
• Some clientdev and integration work while I found suitable staff to do this full-time
• Jack-of-all trades style job due to the complexity of the environment and fragility
Apache Hadoop, ETL, Oracle (allg.), DevOps (allg.), J2SE (Java SE), Puppet, Storage, PHP, Ruby on rails, E-Mail Marketing

Joined the team at VouchedFor for 3 months to re-implement the entire infrastructure packaging and deployment system and to help gradually move them towards a devops culture
• Designed and Implemented full end->end infrastructure management and deployment
platform
• Tech: Terraform, AWS, RDS, Docker, Ansible, Jenkins, NGINX, CloudFlare
• Held weekly 'all hands' demos and sessions with the devs to upskill them in the various 'new' tools we'd implemented
• Lots of sessions to show development how adopting some new principles and tools enables them to respond quicker to business requirements, while keeping the burden of switching to these at a minimum, to enable BAU to continue with as little interruption as normal
• Teasing apart some very debt heavy environments, explaining why these are so dangerous to the implementors/business and guiding the way to best-practice
• Support and advice on performance tuning, deployment strategies and so on
• Removed a very clunky and slow vagrant setup, replaced with docker-compose
DevOps (allg.), NginX, Docker, Amazon Web Services (AWS), PHP

Built a team to transition a very large govt project (150m gbp+ budget >100 devs) to an agile/devops culture
• Pipeline, Delivery and Automation architecture design and implementation
• TeamCity, Ansible, Puppet, Yum, Packaging, SCM etc etc etc
• Pushed for standardisation across all vendor and internal dev teams re: deployment+monitoring
• Tooling creation in Perl, Ruby, Python and a whole load of bash+make
• Mentoring+refactoring of the existing puppet codebase and begun the process of building proper orchestration around the legacy platform
• Playing inter-vendor politics, mostly won, helping to find good compromises otherwise
• Introduced weekly sessions with the business to demonstrate what we were doing and (more importantly) why
• Involved in the design and buildout of the ‘future’ platform using sane processes, while factoring in legacy constraints (e.g oracle, legacy integration)
Oracle (allg.), Continuous Delivery (CDE), DevOps (allg.), Projektleitung / Teamleitung (IT), Bash (Shell), Jenkins, Python, Ansible
