2009 - present IBM STG Lab Services.
Currently working with members of the IBM STG Lab Services. As part of my role I mantain and
manage an IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.2 enviroment in Dublin. This evironment resides on multipe
operating systems. The operating systems used are IBM AIX and RedHat Linux. Systems visible
to IBM Tivoli Monitoring are IBM Power Systems running IBM i, AIX, Linux and Windows. Also
integrated into the solution is ITMfEM which an IBM product for energy management. This
utilises IBM Tivoli Common Reporting which provides energy usage information.
Intergrated into the environment is IBM Systems Director 6.1.2. The benefit of this having this
environment locally is while I am visiting IBM Power customers I can advise them on how to
manage their environment from a hetrogenous standpoint and how to have visibility to hardware
and operating sytems from a monitoring perspective where a small footprint is required.

2007 - 2008 IBM Ireland
Within a managed services environment for IBM Ireland we had multiple instances of Tivoli. One
enviroment being Tivoli Managed Framework and the other IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.1. Both
needed to be consolidated into the one environment. That enviroment was IBM Tivoli Monitoring
6.2. The objective of this was to reduce the foot print of the current Tivoli environment. This
objective was achieved five fold: Benefits in doing so, reduced the power consumption due to
sunsetting of systems, Tivoli workload reduction, reduced datacentre costs and costs associated
with the cooling of such equipment( Computer Room Air Conditioners ).
Administrative costs of managing Tivoli systems from both a Tivoli and Operating system
perspective also reduced. In conjuntion with the aforementioned there was also a reduciton in the
security administration for roll out of security fixes / patches to aforementioned environment. This
consolidation was completed as for Tivoli Managed Framework, IBM Distributed monitoring 5.1,
IBM Netview 7.14.

2005 2008 IBM Ireland
Worked as Tivoli focal point and administrator for IBM Technical Solutions Managers with
proposals for solutioning external requests for service from multiple customers. This entailed
network monitoring using IBM Tivoli Netview. Depending on customer request the enviroment
could utilise ICMP or traps. Networking design completed by local networking team with advice
from myself in relation to ports and protocol. Multiple operation systems were monitored from
IBM i, IBM AIX, RedHat Linux, Windows. Middleware monitored DB2, mySAP and Oracle.
Thresholds agreed with clients. Reviewed Tivoli Enterprise Console in relation to event
management and correlation to Tivoli Enterprise Console with view of sunsetting legacy
Distributed environment. Utilizing OPAL resources when needed and internal IBM repositories as
sources of information.
The managed service environment consisted of multiple clients each of varied systems. Some
standalone servers, some virtualised, all across mutiple sites. Products used Tivoli Enterprise
Console View, Tivoli Enterprise Portal views( IBM and customer view ), Mutliple Tivoli Enterprise
Management Servers due to DMZ and over 700 Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Agents.
