• Definition and implementation of Model Based System Engineering approach integrated in the Company Product Development LifeCycle process.
• Coordination of cross-department activity for implementation of MBSE approach for development of new product and integration with cross-sectorial activities related to RAMS, PLM and Simulation
• Tailoring and actuation of System Engineering Plan compliant to ISO:15288 and ISO 23247 and Space Standards (ECSS)
• Definition of a strategy for implementation of a novel Manufacturing Execution System (MES) applied to the production chain
• Tailoring of LifeCycle Assessment (ISO:14040) to complex Space Project and application to whole life-cycle space products production phases
Responsible, at corporate level, of the definition, tailoring and cross-Programme application of Model Based System Engineering approach to improve Design, Verification&Validation, Production KPIs, to reduce time-to market for the next generation space products, automate documentation delivery.
Reporting directly to the Company top-management, the activity demonstrated and quantified the benefits brought by the MBSE and Digital Twin methodologies through following cross-department tasks carried out and coordinated under my responsibility:
• Definition and Implementation of a Model Based and Digital Twin transition plan driving the Company from current development methodologies to more modern and agile model-based development methodologies (Model Based System Engineering) compliant to the ECSS standards and ISO:15288 and ISO 23247.
• Definition of MBSE Tool-chain and related add-ons for interfacing third-party tools (Simulink, MatLab, Mathworks, IBM DOORS) for improving interoperability and standardizations among engineering departments.
• Drafting of Technical Specification, Architecture Document, Interface Document interfacing multidisciplinary teams and covering functional, performance, environmental, physical and RAMS aspects.
• Implementation of SysML Models representative of the System under development using and customizing 3DS platform
• Automation of contractual documentation delivery (Requirements at different hierarchical level, Interfaces, Architectures) as export of the SysML model content
• Definition of a Process Development Life Cycle Management process based on incremental approach and risk evaluation (Spiral model), superseding the standard V- Model and its limitations in terms
• Definition and monitoring of KPIs to quantify the benefits due to the introduction of new methodologies and processes
• Definition and implementation of a cross-department training plan capable of covering the operational needs of the various departments (design, V&V, Production)
• Design and implementation of the Company strategy to introduce the MES approach to innovate the production chain in strict relation with the Digital Twin approach developed for the Engineering Department

• Design and development of innovative solutions supported by efficient and agile processes including, Business Analysis (Context and business modelling using BPMN standards) Requirement Engineering (according to ISO, an Space&Defence standards) Model Based System Engineering (for design and implementation) and agile methodologies (development process of system components
• Development of downstream application based on space technologies (Earth Observation, Global Navigation Satellite Systems, Satellite Communications) from low TRL level up to commercialization
• Customer-driven and Science based solution to ensure the full satisfaction of User/market needs
Major product/services developed and results achieved:
- Digitalization of Army Gun System: novel system integrating different sensors (IMU, GNSS, Crypto-key, Muzzle radar, Ammunition programmer, network actuators) designed for evolving artillery and infantry improving engage, firing/aiming capacity, reducing drastically time for deployment, readiness and precision on fire (LEONARDO S.p.A.). Application of novel NGVA standards for standardization of design and for improving and ensuring high level of interoperability.
- Evolved Guided Ballistic Ammunitions: evolution of guided ammunitions programmer w.r.t. GNSS, TM/TC interface, sizing, portability for improving fire capability and transportability in different operative scenarios (LEONARDO S.p.A.)
- 5G Hybrid Multiplexer: novel wideband multiplexer for hybrid 5G communications for automotive/maritime applications (European Space Agency)
- DEEP-LIGHT: high sensitive ultraviolet detection system for industrial application and for improvement of identification and tracking capabilities of terrestrial and aerial defence system sponsored by Italian Ministry or Economic Development (M.I.S.E.)
- UV-SAN: innovative sanitation system based on V-UV and UV-C radiation based on proprietary patent and sponsored by the European Space Agency (ESA). The project results are presented at the 32nd International Council of System Engineering INCOSE with the paper “System Engineering as an effective approach for the fast development of space downstream applications in the health sector”
- U-Vir: computational model for evaluation of Ultraviolet susceptibility of viruses and bacteria sponsored by the European Open Science Cloud Secretariat (EOSC)
- O-FARM: Technology platform for Precision Farming and sustainable agriculture currently used in Italy, Brazil and successfully tested in Indonesia, Uruguay

Covering the role of Senior System Engineer, I was Project Manager and Technical Leader of external consultant services provided for main Defence Italian and European Customers. Services provided (task or outsourcing) were focused on following domain of system engineering:
• System Modelling using modern and innovative approach (Model Based System Engineering) with formal language (SysML and UML) applied to C4I systems
• E nterprise Architecture development in military and cyberdefence/cybersecurity domain according to standard frameworks (NAF, UAF, TOGAF)
• S ystem thinking, design and development for Concept of Operation, to design and verification and validation according to Space and Defence standard (ECSS, MIL-STD)
• R equirement engineering and management at system and subsystem level for complex system.
Main results achieved are:
• First implementation of the Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) approach to missile d efence system and development of system engineering process at Company level (MBDA). The new approach has allowed a reduction of resources needed (about 20%), reduction of needed time (about 30%) for production of engineering documents, standardization of processed and output generated.
• First implementation of Model-Based System Engineering approach to Naval Combat Systems for reducing time for design and technical specification preparation (FINCANTIERI, LEONARDO SPA). On the basis of more than 10 years of experience gained in customization and application of System Engineering processes, the Company process has been setup in 6 months and now it is integrated part in different process from preparation of international bids up to software implementation
• First definition of an Enterprise Architecture in the Cyber Security, Cyber-Defence domain according to NATO Architecture Framework (NAF) for the development of guidelines, best practices and or the design of future cybersecurity systems.
