Der Begriff Open Source ist vor allem f\u00fcr seine Open-Source-Software<\/b> bekannt. Im Falle von Open Source liegt das Management und die Entwicklung eines Produkts<\/strong> nicht in den H\u00e4nden eines Unternehmens, sondern in den H\u00e4nden einer Gemeinschaft<\/strong>, die aus unabh\u00e4ngigen Entwicklern<\/strong> besteht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Der Quellcode ist \u00f6ffentlich und grunds\u00e4tzlich kann jeder zur (Weiter-)Entwicklung beitragen. Die Entscheidungen bez\u00fcglich des Designs und der Qualit\u00e4tssicherung werden innerhalb der Community getroffen. Der Quellcode, die Dokumentation und das Endprodukt werden alle Teil der Public Domain. Das bedeutet, dass diese Produkte unter bestimmten Bedingungen grunds\u00e4tzlich frei verf\u00fcgbar sind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Linux<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Das bekannteste Open-Source-Produkt ist das Betriebssystem Linux. Der Gr\u00fcnder Linus Torvalds nutzte in den fr\u00fchen 90er Jahren Teile der bestehenden Open-Source-Software<\/a> f\u00fcr die Entwicklung. Seitdem haben viele weitere Entwickler zum Linux-Projekt beigetragen. Der Linux-Kernel diente auch als Basis f\u00fcr andere Betriebssysteme, wie Android.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die Tatsache, dass Produkte Open Source sind, bedeutet nicht unbedingt, dass die Verwendung solcher Produkte immer kostenlos ist. Bei Linux gibt es beispielsweise mehrere kommerzielle “Distributionen”, die aus Paketen verwandter Programme, grafischen Shells, Treibern und Support bestehen.<\/p>\n
