Delightful tastes. Inviting aromas. A sensory experience. Opened in December 2023 and nestled in the heart of Hannover, Germany, Dong Kinh Restaurant is a brand new Restaurant serving authentic local Vietnamese cuisine.

Ninety Six Digital was approached to create this brand from the ground up as a full scope project. Starting from scratch, our team worked on naming, brand identity, key visual development, brand application, and managing the interior design process. Our objective was to create a cohesive design concept that sets Dong Kinh Restaurant apart from every other asian restaurants in Hannover. The solution began with the naming strategy. Đông Kinh (東京) or "Tonkin" as a Western rendition means 'Eastern Capital'. This was the name of the capital of the Lê dynasty (present-day Hanoi).

Our team wanted to communicate that every visitor will enjoy not only all the delicious Vietnamese specialities but also rich vietnamese culture in the heart of Hannover.

The three main colors of this brand are seal brown, harvest gold and old lace - which have been seen a lot in Vietnamese culture. The seal brown represents the soil and also the color of the famous traditional shirt of Vietnamese people. The harvest gold represents the emperor and also the color of rice fields - which have nourished generations of vietnamese. The old lace represents the color of rice - the main ingredient of almost every vietnamese dish.

Dong Kinh Restaurant's logo is inspired by the image of the dragon and the phoenix. In Vietnamese culture, phoenixes and dragons are often paired together. The dragon in Vietnamese culture represents the emperor and also the masculine - strength, passion and wealth. Phoenix represents the empress and also the feminine - kindness, loyalty and sympathy. Together, they represent the fruitful and blissful life and also the characteristics of the Vietnamese: strong, passionate but also kind, loyal and sympathetic.
