Tätigkeitsbeschreibung

Design and manufacturing of melt electrowritten biodegradable mesh implants for pelvic organ prolapse with different geometries to mimic the mechanical behaviour of vaginal tissue. Laboratory activities included:
- 3D print-compatible design of mesh implants taking into account mesh-specific parameters
- Systematic planning and evaluation of a test series by Design of Experiments
- Mechanical characterisation of mesh implants by uniaxial testing
- Evaluation and interpretation of mechanical test data
- Characterisation of implant geometry and surface morphology using different imaging techniques
- Maintenance and optimisation of the melt electrowriting printer

Über mich

Ever since I dealt with knee prostheses in one of my scientific projects at university, I have been fascinated by the world of medical implants. The field of medical technology, and biomechanics in particular, has been with me for almost three years now. After my bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, I decided to continue with a master's degree in biomechanics and have been conducting independent research in this field since the end of 2019.

During my first scientific project while my master’s degree, I worked with hydrogels for use as cartilage replacement materials and was part of the laboratory group for preventive biomechanics at the University of applied Sciences in Frankfurt. Afterwards I started my semester abroad at the University of Porto in Portugal in the area of biomedical engineering and extended my knowledge in biomaterials and 3D printing for medical applications through a suitable choice of modules.

At the University of Porto, I also got the opportunity to be part of the biomechanics research group and have been exploring 3D printed biodegradable surgical mesh implants for one and a half years now.
I am currently working on my first scientific publication and tutoring in mathematics and physics.
I am also looking for a job as a Research & Development Engineer in biomedical engineering starting this summer.
